A WEE BIT ABOUT ME
About Me: About
Hello all!
I’m Niki Baxter, 31 years old and I live just outside Glasgow, Scotland with my husband Rab and my two dogs - Selkie and Gremlin.
I’ve been riding since I was 5, and began working full time with horses at 16 - starting off as an apprentice at a small event yard in Newcastle. I spent a year away from horses when I was 19, as I’d had a couple of nasty horse related injuries, and I worked as a sushi chef.
I returned to the grooms life for a few years - working with a mixture of showjumping and dressage horses.
In 2016, I moved to Japan for a year and I worked as a freelance English teacher.
When I returned to Scotland I finally made the leap to start my horsey freelance endeavour - Baxter Equine Services.
I’ve always loved clipping and preparing horses for shows and was usually the one groom on any yard that got [happily] landed with these jobs - so clipping and turnout seemed like the obvious route for me to take!
My business started out primarily with clipping - travelling around different local yards - and it’s grown from there to include demos, travelling abroad, and creating educational content online -
I review a wide range of products for a number of different grooming companies, make tutorial videos, and develop creative new plaiting ideas.
